Health Tracking & Insights

Track your pet's weight, medications, activity, and more — with visual charts and trend analysis.

Why Track Your Pet's Health?

Pets can't tell you when something feels off. But data can. By consistently logging health metrics like weight, medications, and activity, you build a picture of your pet's wellbeing that reveals patterns long before symptoms become obvious.

A 5% weight change over a couple of months is easy to miss when you see your pet every day. But on a chart? It jumps right out. That's the power of tracking!

What You Can Track

MoaTails tracks health data through its calendar event types. Each event you complete builds your pet's health history:

  • Weight — Log periodic weigh-ins to see trends over time. The chart shows a sparkline so you can spot gradual gain or loss at a glance.

  • Medication — Every dose you mark complete adds to your pet's medication adherence history. See what's been given, when, and by whom.

  • Vaccination — Keep a record of all vaccinations with due dates and completion status. Never miss a booster.

  • Activity — Track walks, play sessions, and exercise. See how active your pet has been over a given period.

  • Water — Monitor hydration by logging water refills and intake throughout the day.

  • Feeding — Record meals, portions, and feeding times.

Reading the Insights

MoaTails uses two types of data aggregation depending on the metric:

  • Latest value — For metrics like Weight, the chart shows the most recent reading over time. You see the trend of your pet's actual weight.

  • Daily totals — For metrics like Water and Feeding, the chart sums up the day's entries. You see how much total water or food your pet consumed each day.

Time Filtering

View your pet's data across different time periods to spot different kinds of patterns:

  • Week — See day-to-day variation and recent activity

  • Month — Spot weekly patterns and short-term trends

  • All time — The big picture view for long-term health monitoring

Setting Up Health Tracking

The best part? There's no separate "health tracking" mode to enable. Just use the calendar:

  1. Log weight regularly — Create a recurring Weight event (e.g., every Sunday morning) and log your pet's weight when you mark it complete

  2. Track medications — Set up Medication events with the right frequency and mark doses complete as you give them

  3. Record activity — Create Activity events for walks and play sessions

Each completed event automatically feeds into your pet's health insights. The more consistently you log, the more useful the trends become.

Set up a recurring Weight event for the same day and time each week. Weighing at a consistent time gives you the most accurate trend data — and MoaTails will remind you so you don't forget!

Sharing Health Data with Your Vet

When you visit the vet, your pet's health insights are right in your pocket:

  • Weight chart — Show your vet exactly how your pet's weight has trended

  • Medication history — Prove adherence to prescribed treatments

  • Activity levels — Demonstrate changes in energy or mobility

  • Documents — Attach lab results, prescriptions, and records to related calendar events

If your vet is on your care team, they can access this data directly from their own device.

Tips for Better Tracking

  • Be consistent — Track at the same time each day or week for the most useful data

  • Use recurring events — Let MoaTails remind you instead of trying to remember

  • Log values when completing — When you mark a Weight or Water event complete, enter the actual number for accurate charts

  • Review monthly — Take a few minutes each month to look at trends and share anything notable with your vet
