Delete Your Account

How to permanently delete your MoaTails account and the data tied to it — from inside the app, or by email if you can't sign in.

Delete Your Account

Last updated: May 18, 2026

MoaTails (operated by Bhagwat Garg, doing business as MoaTails) is the only operator of this service. This page tells you exactly how to delete your MoaTails account and what happens to your data when you do. Two paths, both simple.

  1. Open MoaTails on your phone.

  2. Tap Settings in the bottom tab bar.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings list and tap Delete Account (it sits next to Sign Out).

  4. Review the impact summary. If you main-own any pets, you'll be prompted to either transfer ownership to a collaborator or accept that those pets and all their data will be deleted with your account.

  5. Type your email to confirm and tap Delete Account.

That's it. The deletion is processed immediately on our servers, you're signed out, and the app returns to the launch screen. The account is removed from our active databases on the same call.

Delete by email (if you can't open the app)

Lost your device, forgot which provider you signed up with, or simply prefer email? Send a message to privacy@moatails.com from the address tied to your MoaTails account, with the subject line:

Delete my account

We'll confirm receipt within 1 business day and complete the deletion within 7 business days. A human reads every message.

If you signed in with Apple's "Hide My Email" relay, the address we have on file (xyz@privaterelay.appleid.com) is receive-only — Apple does not let you send from it. The cleanest path is to sign in to the app one more time and delete from inside the app. If that is not possible, email us from any address you control and tell us the Apple relay address we should match against.

What is deleted

When your account is deleted, the following is permanently removed from our active databases on the same call:

  • Your profile, your sign-in identity (Google or Apple OAuth link), preferences, and entity defaults

  • Pets you main-own, including all of their photos, calendar entries, weight logs, medications, vaccines, appointments, documents, notes, and goals

  • Your collaborator memberships on other people's pets

  • Pending pet invitations you sent

  • Your push-notification tokens, registered devices, and your in-app notification history

  • Your subscription record on our side (the membership row)

  • Your iCal feed token, any referral code you generated, and feedback you submitted in-app

In addition, the deletion call also:

  • Scrubs your name and your user ID from notifications stored on other accounts (so a team member doesn't keep seeing "Sarah added a feeding" after Sarah is gone).

  • Queues deletion requests to PostHog (analytics) and Sentry (crash reporting), which complete shortly afterwards.

  • Removes residual email addresses from expired or declined invitations that were addressed to you.

What is kept, and why

A small amount of data must be retained, separately from your account, because we're legally required to:

  • Subscription and payment receipts (held for tax and commercial-record obligations)

  • Customer-support emails you exchanged with us (held for consumer-protection record-keeping)

  • Anonymized crash logs (cannot be re-identified; product safety only)

We do not retain pet care content, photos, or documents after deletion. The full retention schedule with periods and legal bases is in Section 8 of our Privacy Policy.

What happens to pets you collaborate on

If you've been added as a collaborator (sitter, vet, owner, trainer, groomer, guest) on someone else's pet, deleting your account immediately removes you from that team. The pet itself is not deleted — it belongs to whoever main-owns it.

Entries you logged on those pets (feedings, medications, weights, notes, documents) remain in place so the team's care history isn't full of holes — but your identity is unlinked from them. They appear as authored by an unknown user from then on. Notifications that mentioned you by name on other accounts are also scrubbed of your name and ID. There is no path for the remaining team to discover who originally wrote the entry.

If you want specific entries you authored to also be deleted (not just unlinked), mention them in your deletion email and we'll remove them before processing.

Moa the capybara

We're sad to see you go. If something specific isn't working for you, a sentence in your deletion email helps us fix it for the next person. Totally optional — your deletion goes through either way.

Frequently asked questions

Will my pets' data be sold or shared with third parties?

No. We don't sell or share personal data, and we don't run ad networks on the app. Your data is deleted, not relocated. The full list of processors we use (Supabase for storage, RevenueCat for subscriptions, Sentry for crashes, PostHog for product analytics) is in our Privacy Policy.

Can I export my data first?

Yes. Before deleting, open Settings → Privacy & Data → Export My Data to download a machine-readable archive of your account. Available on every tier, including Free. Recommended if you may want to come back later.

Can I undo a deletion?

No. Once the deletion call completes, the data is gone from our active systems. If you sign in again with the same Google or Apple ID later, you'll land on a brand-new empty account — your pets do not return.

Does deleting my account cancel my subscription?

No. In-app subscriptions are managed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store), not by us. Deleting your MoaTails account does not cancel them. To stop being billed, cancel in your App Store or Play Store account settings before (or after) deleting. We have no ability to cancel or refund a store-managed subscription on your behalf.

Will I receive emails from MoaTails after deletion?

No further transactional or marketing emails will be sent to you. Mail-provider suppression lists may retain your email address for the sole purpose of ensuring deleted accounts never receive email again — they contain nothing other than the email itself.

Changes to this page

We update this page whenever the deletion flow, retention periods, or applicable laws change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.
