Smart Calendar
How the MoaTails smart calendar works — recurring events, one-time tasks, completion tracking, and filtering.
How the Calendar Works
The MoaTails calendar is built around the idea that most pet care is repetitive. You set up a pattern once, and the calendar generates individual trackable instances.
For example, "Give Luna her joint supplement every morning at 8am" creates a daily event. Each day, you get a reminder and can mark it complete with a single tap.
Think of each recurring event as a template. MoaTails creates a fresh, trackable instance for every occurrence — so you always know what's done and what's pending.
Event Types
MoaTails supports nine event types, each designed for a specific kind of pet care:
Medications — Dosage, frequency, start/end dates
Meals / Feeding — Food type, portion size, feeding times
Water — Hydration tracking throughout the day
Appointments — Vet visits, grooming, training sessions
Activities — Walks, play sessions, exercise
Tasks — General care tasks (nail trimming, teeth brushing, bath time)
Vaccinations — Due dates and completion records
Weight — Periodic weigh-ins to track trends over time
Notes — Free-form journal entries about your pet's day, behavior, or anything you want to remember
Each event type can include relevant fields like a value (for trackable metrics), assignee (who's responsible), priority level, and location.
You can attach documents to any calendar event. For example, link a prescription PDF to a medication schedule, or attach a vet report to an appointment. Learn more in the Document Storage doc.
Viewing and Filtering
The calendar view lets you:
Filter by pet — See one pet's schedule or all pets combined
Filter by status — Show pending, completed, or overdue items
Filter by type — Just medications, or just appointments
Switch views — Day, week, or agenda view
Heading to the vet? Filter by your pet's name and the "Medication" type to get a quick view of everything they're currently taking. Instant medication list!
Completion Tracking
Every calendar instance can be marked complete with a single tap. This builds a full history of your pet's care over time:
Pending items — Upcoming tasks that haven't been done yet
Completed items — Done! Timestamped with who completed them
Overdue items — Missed tasks that are past due — highlighted so you don't miss them
For trackable events like Weight or Water, you can log a value when completing — the number gets recorded and feeds into your pet's health insights.
Overdue Tracking
Missed something? Overdue items are highlighted and stay visible until you mark them complete or dismiss them. The home screen shows a count of overdue items at a glance, so nothing slips through the cracks.
iCal Export
Premium users can export their MoaTails calendar as an iCal feed. This lets you see your pet's schedule alongside your personal calendar in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or any other app that supports iCal subscriptions. Learn more in the iCal Integration doc.
